Our fleet has an excavator mulcher attachment and a skidsteer mulder attachment which can help clean up heavy, dense areas without having to pull out debris and haul it away.  Both machines can chip up debris fine and it stays on site. If you are not building on top of the mulched area, this is a great option to clear an area at a more affordable cost.
